A Fashionable Gathering

Above are some of my favourite photos from Grimoire's 2nd anniversary party. I would love to raid these girls wardrobes. They are just soo dreamy. Beautiful head pieces, lace, layers, flowers and fur. Dainty darlings with rose coloured cheeks.

Grimoire

Grimoire is the pioneering store behind Japan's Dolly kei fashion scene. A treasure trove of antiques sourced from around the globe. It's name is taken from an old book of magic. The shop has a strong atmosphere to it, decorated to appear like a girls home in the forest. Filled with such beautiful and eerie objects I believe I could get lost for hours.
Oh how I dream of going to Japan.
I recommend clicking on the pictures to view them in more detail.

Dolly Girls

The Japanese Dolly Kei fashion scene is my latest obsession.
Such expression through fashion is just not present in the western world.
This style plays off the look of antique dolls. Old faded cloth, white porcelain, feminine yet a little creepy.

I imagine a beautiful young mystic living in the woods. Their home is an old cottage covered with vines, time and nature have reclaimed it. Draped in lace, cotton, leather and fur. She surrounds herself with dreams, books, antique dolls and mother nature.

Dolly Girls tend to exclusively wear antique and vintage clothing. Damaged pieces do not matter. Tears, fading, stains and imperfections are the markings of its past life and are therefore cherished. There is strong emphasis put on each and every detail. Beautiful and intricate. Layer upon layer of clothing and mementos. Each piece is special and full of meaning.

Inspiration is drawn from Eastern Europe during the middle ages, folk stories, fantasy, wizards, witchcraft, Renaissance, Marie Antoinette, Harry Potter, Narnia and fairy tales.

Still Night, Still Light

I am currently listening to Still Night, Still Light by the beautiful female trio Au Revoir Simone.

"Au Revoir Simone must have beamed in from a land where lace clouds breeze over crystal lakes and icicles grow from the warm earth." [NME Radar article]

Beast

The beautiful beast who sleeps in my soul
Wakes only in my slumber

King of my dreamscapes
Wild as the wind
My animal within

Feeling very inspired by forest scenes, fairytale clothing, The Dark Crystal, wild creatures and these photos.

Today

Today was just another average day. It was gloomy, cold and I still felt sick but I was determined to try and make the best of it. I've been procrastinating so much lately so I thought I'd try get some painting done. This is the fruit of my labour.
It's an acrylic painting of one of my drawings that I did the other day. I love how it turned out.

During my vintage hunting I've been collecting a few cute frames. I thought this one suited well so the two have been partnered up.

In The Woods Tonight

I havent been feeling too good the last few days so I've been at home snuggled in bed with my laptop trying to get better.
Today I came across these lovely photos by Justine Kerrigan. I love the deep earthy tones and mori girl style imagery.

I Love Bento Boxes

Bento are Japanese home packaged or takeaway meals. They generally consist of rice, fish, meat and vegetables. There are many different varieties but favourite ones are those that are arranged to look like cute little animals and characters. I really wish that my school lunches had looked as yummy and adorable. There are so many cute little bento boxes that you can buy to package these lunches as well as adorable tools to create and decorate them.
I myself have not had the pleasure of eating one but I have been very tempted to buy my own bento box and tools so as I can create my own. Today I came across this awesome book called 'Yum-yum Bento Box' on Modcloth,  want it soo much.

Have you had a bento box before?

Japanese Street Fashion- cute nerd girls

I have always been hugely influenced by Japanese youth culture and street fashion. Their clothes are so cute and expressive. I love the uniqueness of their styles and how they express themselves through fashion. I wish I were as fearless to just wear anything I wanted. Even with my subdued style I feel as though I stand out too much here.

At the moment I am absolutely in love with these girls and their adorable nerd chic style. They are just too cute for words. I love their glasses, plaid outfits, bow ties, adorable hairstyles, pretty shoes and socks, subtle makeup and shy glances.

I like the girl with the scruffy hair the best, in both photos she's just darling. I'd really love a pair of little booties like hers and some cute round glasses.
Off to go do some drawing now. I feel inspired to draw cute little nerdy girls wearing glasses. Later I might make a pair of suspender sorts like these (below).
